To pick up where Jason left off- following our comfy train ride we spent 3 nights on the west side of Bangkok in an area called Thon Buri- bringing our total nights in Bangkok to 7. Despite having heard multiple times that 2 or 3 days in Bangkok was enough to tire from it, we’ve actually really enjoyed exploring the city.
Jason must have a secret bucket list to ride every form of transportation in Thailand. I’m sure there will be more but we have now added the city’s underground train and a motor bike’s side carriage to our list (in this case designed to transport produce).

Day 1 back in Bangkok we had a bit of a lazy day reading lots of Harry Potter, relaxing at the hostel and venturing out to the markets for dinner.

Day 2 we went to our first temple of the trip, Wat Pho (photos attached) and spent a couple hours here enjoying the statues and ornate buildings. For lunch, I had been craving Korean food. So we had our most expensive meal yet- just cents under $20- this is more than double the usual amount we spend on a meal. Unfortunately, I couldn’t even say that my kimchee chigae was worth it.

Day 3 we decided to take up the advice of many blogs on bangkok and have a spa day. We spent 4 1/2 hours at a Japanese hot springs bathhouse. I had been to a similar place once before in Korea, but I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to let Jason in on the experience. Our spa package was: 1 hour of Onsen public bathhouse 1 hour body exfoliation 1.5 hour massage (With barley tea breaks and things in between).

It was definitely a nice experience and we enjoyed it but we both agreed for the money it makes more sense to just stick to the street massages. So that’s the end of Bangkok and from March 1st-15th we will be volunteering at an English school in a small town 3 hours North of Bangkok. Post to come shortly.
