Brooklyn, Times Square & Bridgeport

Jeanette added some photos to this during last week, but I was busy working so no words were added.   So, I am here to rectify that.

Our first weekend in NYC, we tried to see as many of the iconic landmarks as possible, so we started by heading down to the Brooklyn Bridge (after eating an overpriced breakfast burrito from Brooklyn).   The bridge was really as all of the hundred year old structures throughout the city are.   Jeanette does not get the same kick out of seeing rivets ever where.

After the bridge we moved north through Manhattan going through the financial district.  There was really only one good photo opportunity here which we gladly took with the Wall Street Bull.  Lydia and I were a little more conservative in our posing approach, but we both got a kick out of the man before us dangling from the horn.

Lydia’s favorite part of the day is when we stopped at a smoothie cart.  She loves getting to eat big people food.  The last month she has started reaching and grabbing at anything that she can get her hands on that we are eating, and we generally let her get a taste of everything (that she is allowed to eat).  We are a little  nervous she is going to start out a picky-eater (not sure where she gets that from).  After a taste of something she will often clinch her lips so tight there is no chance for a second bite – a technique I have often employed.

After more site-seeing (including Times Square, Korea Town, Central Park, USS Intrepid, Empire State Building, and more) on Saturday, we joined a childhood friend of Jeanette’s (Glori) and her family on Sunday for dinner.  We left from Grand Central Station and headed to the house in Bridgeport, CT.   The trip took about 1 hour and 45 minutes, but it did not feel that long (I always enjoy a good train ride and Lydia was able to nap).  Glori and her family were, of course, amazing people, and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit.  After another 1.75 hour train-ride, a quick hop on the purple subway line, then a transfer to a blue subway line, and finally a short walk to our apartment building, we were back comfortably to our bed.

We took the subway across the river to Brooklyn and then walked across the Brooklyn bridge into downtown Manhattan.
We could see the Statue of Liberty from here.
Lydia really enjoyed this fruit smoothie we got from a smoothie cart.
Then we walked around the Financial District- walking down Wall Street. Here we are posing with the Bull Market bull. By the end of this day we had walked 8 miles.
For $15 we had this man in Times Square do Lydia’s portrait. It looked like her in maybe 2 years.
On Sunday, we were invited to dinner with Jeanette’s childhood family friends in Bridgeport, Connecticut. We took the train from Grand Central station. Mrs. Zambon made really delicious homemade ravioli with goulash.
