Adventure 6: water park/ bird park
Pong’s 10 year old son Takhee is in town for the summer which is one of the reasons I think we got to have this adventure. There’s a children’s water park in the neighboring city about an hour away. We went a little later in the day to try and beat the heat a bit.
Admission to both the water and bird park was just under $4 (our most expensive excursion yet if you’ve been keeping track. 🙂 The funny thing about the water park was that they nickled and dimed you on everything – 10 baht for a swim cap, 40 baht for a tube, etc. Also, they had a little Nazi walking around that made sure everyone had swimming caps including me (Jason). I guess I didn’t look bald enough or they were nervous that what remained of my hair would end up in their drains – haha.
The water park was very basic but still very enjoyable- I unwittingly went down the 1 large water slide once to learn it gave you quite the beating. After being thrown across the water and then dunked in, I decided to stick to the lazy river. Jason braved the water slide a few more times with Takhee.
After relaxing here we went for a stroll in the bird park next door and this turned out to a really cool walk. There was a large free range area filled with heron, peacocks, iguana, komoda dragons, wild chicken and others that we walked through. And then a caged area for small birds and exotic birds.
While trying to get a close up photo of some of the exotic birds Jason underestimated their abilities and managed to get bit through the fence- pictures for proof. If only he managed to snap the photo a second earlier.
Overall lots of cool birds I had never heard of before and a fun evening out. They attempted to ‘treat’ is to an adventurous meal after this of intenstine, and oysters and a few more interesting things but we haven’t been feeling too adventurous with the food recently so we snuck in some cereal after we got back to the house. The 7-Elevens only sell 3 types of cereal: froted flakes, corn flakes, and some chocolate cereal. So were hoping after eating so much Corn Flakes that HoneyNut Cheerios will be too sweet for Jason when we get home. 🙂

its surprising that they haven’t caught on to the fact that most westerners dont enjoy eating intestines
